If there is one thing that is always true in the automotive industry, it’s that the best in the business are constantly adapting. The GMC Sierra 1500 has a well-earned reputation for being among the best in a very competitive class. So, what is changing for the 2020 GMC Sierra 1500? Without overlooking anything important, there is quite a bit new that customers can expect to see. The Sierra 1500 was just completely redesigned and reequipped for the previous model year, but that hasn’t stopped GMC from pushing the limits. When the new premium full-size pickup truck is available, its best and most innovative features will be available on more trims. Let’s take a look.

The introduction of the 3.0-liter, turbocharged Duramax diesel engine was a huge boost in capability for last year’s Sierra 1500. Buyers who were waiting for the 2020 model will be able to order their new truck with the diesel engine making 277 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque right away. Additionally, the CarbonPro version of the truck with the carbon fiber cargo bed will also be available from the first day the 2020 Sierra goes on sale.
Customers have been counting on the 5.3-liter, V-8 engine in the GMC Sierra for a long time. The 2020 version of the truck will use that same tried-and-true power plant, but now it will be attached to the automaker’s 10-speed automatic transmission. It will be available as an option on the SLT, AT4 and Denali trim grades.
Towing has always been a centerpiece of the GMC Sierra 1500. The 2020 model year will continue this tradition by making all of the previous model’s towing functionality available on more trim grades. This more intense focus on towing will mean that more owners will be able to get the enhanced towing camera views and GMC application functionality on more trims. The MultiPro Tailgate and Multi-Color Heads-Up Display are also returning for 2020.
