New project works to blend human drivers with better technology

There has been quite a bit of news about the future of autonomous vehicles in the news lately, especially in the automotive industry. Just about every automaker in the world is working on some aspect of making long commutes easier through technology. Nissan is no exception. The Nissan Intelligent Mobility Project and its ProPilot system were recently shown off to an esteemed group of experts and policymakers in Washington, D.C. Many of these projects are working to replace a driver’s interaction with a vehicle. Nissan’s track is different. Instead of taking the human driver out of the equation, the manufacturer wants to make the partnership between people and machines as seamless as possible.

“Someday, when drivers want, the technology will be available to do the driving task for them,” Andy Christensen, senior manager, Nissan Technical Center North America in Michigan said in a press release. “But at Nissan, we see the driver remaining engaged and integral well into the future.”
