“ProPILOT Assist has the ability to track curving lanes, helping the driver stay centered in the lane as well as adjusting for various traffic flow conditions,” Takeshi Yamaguchi, senior vice president, Research and Development, Nissan Technical Center North America said in a press release. “However, just as non-autonomous vehicles today, ProPILOT Assist requires the driver to remain engaged in the task of driving at all times – though the technology can reduce driver fatigue and increase driving enjoyment.”
What is Nissan ProPILOT Assist?
The Nissan ProPILOT Assist system is actually a suite of cameras, millimeter wave radar and other sensors that surround a vehicle. Engineers have included these systems to act as another set of eyes to monitor the area around a ProPILOT Assist-equipped vehicle. Drivers will instantly see the value of Nissan ProPILOT Assist when traffic is moving painfully slow or has come to a congested stop altogether. The ProPILOT system will slow or stop and hold it in place if the vehicle is stuck in a traffic jam. Additionally, the system has different levels capability based on conditions.
How do I activate it?
Nissan owners will be able to activate the ProPILOT Assist system by pressing the blue button located on the right spoke of the steering wheel. After pressing the button, the driver can set the speed at which they want to travel as well as how much space they want to keep between themselves and the vehicle in front of them. An LCD screen located in the center gauge cluster behind the steering wheel will show the system’s status as well indicates what the settings are.
