The next frontier in the automotive industry is going to be eschewing fossil fuels for electrically powered vehicles. Nissan has been working diligently to make sure that they are on the cutting edge of that technology. The new features for the 2020 Nissan LEAF will not only make automaker’s sole EV more user-friendly, but also safer and more efficient with a maximum range that will rival anything else on the market today. Vehicle safety is always going to be a top priority for Nissan. The continued development of the LEAF has presented new challenges for driver, passenger and pedestrian safety. One of the most important upgrades made to the 2020 LEAF is a change to what the vehicle sounds like when it’s in motion on the road.

How far can it go?
Drivers of the Nissan LEAF will never have to stop at the gas station ever again. The vehicle’s S PLUS, SV PLUS and SL PLUS trim grades have a 62-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery that can travel up to 226 miles while recording up to 214 horsepower. Owners of the S and SV versions use a 40-kilowatt-hour battery that can travel nearly 150 miles. These versions of the 2020 LEAF will be able to make up to 147 horsepower.
What does it sound like?
For the 2020 model year, the 2020 LEAF utilizes a full suite of Nissan Safety Shield® 360 technology, like the rest of the class. This will include features like Automatic Emergency Braking with Pedestrian Detection, Lane Departure Warning and Rear Automatic Braking. Speaking of pedestrian safety, the 2020 LEAF is also outfitted with two new sounds that will help those on foot hear it coming. When the vehicle is traveling slower than 18.6 miles per hour, it will emit a constant tone known as Canto – a derivative of the Latin verb for ‘I sing.’ A pulsing chime will be heard when the vehicle is moving in reverse.
Connectivity Equipment
The S and SV models will now be equipped with an 8-inch color touchscreen that will offer compatibility with both the Android Auto™ and Apple CarPlay®. Other available connectivity technology will include NissanConnect®, ProPILOT Assist and the automaker’s proprietary Intelligent Around View® Monitor.
