- Stay with your vehicle. Staying with with your vehicle will help protect you from the cold temperatures and wind while you wait for help to arrive.
- Have the right supplies. If your car breaks down in winter it’s essential to have the proper supplies to help get you home safely. A few items that you’ll want to have in your car during the winter months that will help you include a flare gun, blankets, water, food, first-aid kit, cell phone, phone charger, matches/lighter and whatever else you can think of that will come in handy.
- Use things around you. Without having to search to far away from the safety of your stranded vehicle, look for sticks branches and other things that you can build a fire with in case you are stuck for a while.
- Keep your windows closed. The key to staying warm when you are stranded in your car is to keep the heat inside. Keep your windows closed and if your window is broke, cover it up with a blanket to help keep the elements outside of your vehicle.
